We are proud to announce our next online forum on the topic of “ZOOM and EU Security”.
A popular online video conference platform, Zoom has been widely used in Europe. It offers advanced features for hosting webinars and large meetings. In comparison to Cisco Webex Meetings or Microsoft Teams, Zoom has presumably much more power and scale in collecting personal and cooperate data, though. Based in the USA, Zoom is subject to the cloud act, the Patriot Act and the FISA Act, which means that it must pass on all data from non-US citizens to the US secret services. Therefore, Zoom would not be strictly compliant with data protection regulations for Europe. As a matter of fact, the majority of administrative institutions in Europe avoid using Zoom.
Last year, ZOOM said that with ISMAP registration, it meets new global security standards for core products. ZOOM vows to have made a strong commitment to Europe regarding data protection, respecting customers and regulators. This April, Zoom claims to have cooperated with SURF, the collaborative organization for IT in Dutch higher education and research, to adapt and update its policies, thus implemented important data privacy measures and met its commitments. Is Zoom compliant with the EU regulations now? The round of discussion strives to offer expertise opinions on the issue. We’ll keep you updated!
