“Pocket Park” is a vivid description of a mini park. It is a small open space to the public. These small and beautiful pocket parks in Hedong District can be seen through the windows of the residential areas, thus very much loved by the inhabitants.
“Covering with green” has become a trend in Hedong. Last year, there were 47 new pocket parks being built in the district. Among them, Tinglan Park was evaluated the “Most Beautiful Pocket Park” in Linyi City Center.
The district administration has established a long-term mechanism in to comprehensively manage the maintenance of these pocket parks. Garden managers regularly inspect the green space of the park to conduct on-site evaluation of the landscape facilities, pedestrian trails and the wooden boardwalks in the pocket parks. Any damaged or missing facilities will be quickly repaired or replaced to ensure the landscape. Besides, regular pruning, watering, and weeding are effectively keeping the image satisfactory.
Hedong District is strengthening the quality of its environment by shaping itself into the so-called “sponge” city. Fengxun Garden, Yuku Community Park, Jiaoxinyuan and more are adding water-transmitted pavement area of 12,777 square meters. This water-transmitting method stops the loss of rainwater, successfully supplying more groundwater through filtration. It not only protects water circulation, but also improves greatly the soil’s ecological conservation capabilities. The district is planning a total number of 110 pocket parks by 2025 so as to create a sustainable green and healthy atmosphere there.
