Forum Alpbach 2024 Planned to Start on 17 August

The European Forum Alpbach engages key actors of various fields and generations to take part in fruitful discussions. Together, they experience the power of open dialogue and a common purpose. By driving ideas and sparking action for a strong and democratic Europe, the EFA24 is bound to become a transformational event in building strong and sustainable relationships, connecting in field of expertise, expanding professional horizon, gaining visibility for cause and sharing a table with like-minded individuals and people with different opinions.

At the intersection of Finance and Economy track with all other EFA tracks (Climate, Security, Democracy and the Rule of Law), the question “Financing the Green Transition: Who is going to Pay the Bill?” will be answered by a high-level speaker panel on 25 August, starring two big names of the climate discourse, two executives from the banking sector and Mario Nava from the European Commission.

Economy’s intersection with social cohesion boils down to one question: Is economic inequality inevitable? In a deep-dive with a comprehensive scientific cast (Andrea Weber, Anja Meierkord, Gabriel Felbermayer, Joseph E. Stiglitz, Moritz Schularick) on 25 August, the roots of inequality will be explored.

On 26 August, the discussion will focus on the US-EU green tech competition and explore how Europe can unleash a flood of private investment to drive clean innovation.

The programme is still being updated. Two of the most recent confirmations to join EFA24 are José Manuel Barroso, the former President of the European Commission and Magnus Brunner, Austrian Minister of Finance and designated EU-Commissioner. Also on board is Helle Thorning-Schmidt, who used to be Prime Minister of Denmark, and Nobel Prize winner Anton Zeilinger. (20240801)
