August 8 is the 16th “National Fitness Day” in China. Hedong District in Linyi has created a “15-minute” convenient fitness circle to improve the fitness activities for the locals on a regular basis.
Along the scenic Hedong Riverside Fitness Corridor, around a hundred enthusiasts gather every day to perform various fitness activities like 24-Move-Styled Tai Chi, 8-Section Brocade Qigong, Tai Chi Fan. Through their favorite sports, the participants are integrating national fitness activities into their daily lives.
“Now that the fitness facilities are relatively complete, I hope everyone will come to participate in the sports,” said Chu Fuyun, a member of the Dongyi Tai Chi Team in Hedong District who was practicing. “Yes, yes, I practice Tai Chi 8-Section Brocade, and am happy to have professionals to teach us…” Liu Feng, also a member of the team, interrupted excitedly. She told the reporters that through such fitness exercises, her body is feeling healthier, and her mood is better. Her relationship with the other participants is getting more and more harmonious.
Hedong District is focusing on bringing sports into daily life and attracting everyone participate in physical exercises. The national fitness work has offered the chances to better the national fitness facilities in order to create a 15-minute fitness circle at the doorstep for the masses. It has stimulated the enthusiasm of the locals for fitness and promoted the good relationship among various associations and communities through a variety of friendship matches.
According to an official in charge of the Education and Sports Bureau of Hedong District, a total of 166 mass fitness activities have been held in the area this year, with a total of 220,000 participants.
