
On November 2, Nishang Palace saw the magnificent final show of the “Runhua Award” Belt and Road College Student Fashion Design and Skills Competition, and the awards ceremony of the 2024 Jiangxi Fashion Institute’s International Fashion Art Festival. The week-long fashion feast came to a celebrative end.
The “Runhua Award” competition has been a series of events aiming to “integrate the past and the present, and to connect the East and the West”. There are high-end forums for the exchange of ideas, visual spectacles of art performances, and trend previews of new product launches. Dazzling feast and spirit-enlightening art revitalize the traditional “Runhua Award” with a new look. This year, the “Runhua Award” with 28 years of history has for the first time welcomed its international guests.

2024 marks the 11th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiatives. The 2024 “Runhua Award” Belt and Road University Student Fashion Design and Skills Competition, hosted by the China Fashion Designers Association and Jiangxi Fashion Institute, takes “integration” as its theme, inviting people to appreciate the charm and power of different cultures, and experience the harmony and symbiosis between them. The competition is not only a competitive stage for displaying the innovative ability of fashion designers, but also an important platform for promoting the continuous development of Chinese and Western fashion industry, injecting freshness and vitality into it.
The judging panel includes experts, scholars, designers and well-known personalities from Tsinghua University, China Academy of Art, China Fashion Designers Association, “Golden Roof Award” designers, as well as corporate brand design directors and China’s top ten fashion designers.

Officially launched in June this year, the competition has attracted participants from more than 50 professional colleges and universities home and abroad. The 700 high-quality design manuscripts received were reviewed and selected by the judges. 31 contestants from 23 domestic and foreign universities stood out and entered the finals, including Tsinghua University, Macau University of Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, Wuhan Textile University, University of Kelantan, Malaysia, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, and Universiti Putra Surabaya, Indonesia.
On November 2, the 31 finalists took the comprehensive skill tests such as draping, pattern making, and manufacture craft, as well as on-site oral defense and dynamic clothing display before they saw the harvesting moment. The gold, silver, and bronze awards of the competition were announced, bringing the festival to a successful conclusion.
“Breath of the Wilderness” created by He Wanting from Wuhan Textile University won the gold medal; “REBIRTH” created by Wu Chenyang and Yu Xiaoqin from Jiangxi Fashion Institute and “Stone Rhythm” created by Xu Weiting from Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts won the silver medal; “Tea Guests on the Sea” by Song Hangfeng from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, “Back to Nature” by Pei Yi from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology and “Meeting the South Mountain” by Yuan Junhao from Ningbo University won the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, awards were also presented at the ceremony to contestants who won the male and female model awards in the 28th “Runhua Award” Model Contest and the 2024 China Super Professional Model Contest (Jiangxi Division) finals. Jiangxi Fashion Institute students Peng Liangyu and Wang Yuwei won the male and female model championships respectively.
This year’s competition included a variety of activities like the Fashion Design and Skills Competition, the China Supermodel Competition (Jiangxi Division) Finals, the Industrial College and Outstanding Alumni Works Conference, the “Three-College Linkage” Talent Training Reform Achievement Exhibition, plus domestic and international academic conferences, and the musical stage play “Fashion Fu”. More than 20 million viewers through live broadcast were attracted to the festival.
International exchange became a highlight of the competition this year. Representatives of universities and international students from countries such as the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and Indonesia were invited to attend the opening ceremony of the International Fashion Art Festival for Colleges. More than 50 universities home and abroad have come together to celebrate the clothing culture. The competition has become an important platform for Jiangfu (Jiang Garment), offering teachers and students to have in-depth dialogues with international fashion industry. It has promoted the Chinese clothing culture, leading the world to see the richness and beauty of Jiang Garment.
The events on the 2024 International Fashion Art Festival for Colleges each are not just events, but a bridge of innovation and mutual communication between students, experts, scholars and industry enterprises. By demonstrating their professionality through fashion design and model competitions, contestants gained social recognition, received expert comments, and enhanced their innovation awareness. Moreover, companies that observe the fashion art festival gained the chance to find outstanding talents for their business.

2024 is the 28th year that Jiangxi Fashion Institute has held the “Runhua Award”, and its first year to take an international approach by inviting foreign institutions to participate, too. From “Jiangfu Cup” to the “Runhua Award” and to the “2024 Jiangxi Fashion Institute’s International Fashion Art Festival”, the festival has become a display platform for fashion education, inserting influence on other domestic institutions.
Jiangxi Fashion Institute is determined to continue holding the “International Fashion Art Festival” as a fashion business card, promoting exchanges and cooperation in the field of fashion clothing between China and foreign countries so as to write a new chapter for Jiangfu fashion culture.
